image thumb69 Why any reform is doomed?

Statistics from drivers licenses say that Elgin, IL is the fattest city in Illinois.

So the government there did what any government does – they spent other people’s money to try and solve the problem:

Nonetheless, Elgin officials are now offering "fitness grants" to coax people into healthier lifestyles.

Trouble is… the deadline for applying is coming up and they haven’t had any requests.

It seems that folks in Elgin don’t mind being heavyset.

This highlights to me that the only way out of our health care mess is serious science. A fat pill. An anti-aging laser. Something. Barring that, and given our current political system, we are headed for brokesville.

I hear they sing “God Bless America” real good.

Be careful what you wish for. People in technology aspire to tech solutions to problems, often without thinking through the impact and the path that technology would take. What, for example, was the impact of the birth control pill?

We are not short of “serious science”; we are turning out more PhDs than the market can absorb. They form a mob at the government door for subsidy so they can keep doing their favorite science.

BTW: where do you expect the money for “serious science” to come from?

Serious science is something I’m okay with the Federal government covering. The main point was that our finances are doomed lacking a medical singularity.

I live in Elgin Il. – it’s not that bad. I’m about 5’4″ and weigh between 225 and 230 so I’m in OK shape. My sister is 3 years older than me, she gained a lot of weight after she got married, she might be up to 300 by now so she should start watching her weight. Most of the girls I’m friends with are in the same range as my sister and I – I don’t know anyone who looks like the girl in the picture – and I don’t beleive we’re the fattest city in Illinois…

    @ Gwen

    …holy $hit – do you really think it’s ok to weigh between 225 – 300 as a 5’4″ female?
no wonder we’re the fattest country in the world

  6. Gwen Says:

    @ JDX

    actually it’s my sister who is 300 pounds – she’s almost 5’7″.
We’re both active and very healthy
as long as that is true, I refuse to obsess about a couple of extra pounds. I am getting married in the spring and will probably end up gaining some weight over the next couple of years – some things are unavoidable – but I will always continue to go for regular walks nad make sure I don’t let it get our of control.

  7. JDX Says:

Who the fuk whould ever marry a girl who weighs 225???
if my girlfriend ever goes over 130 I’ll dump her a$$

  8. Gwen Says:

I think I’m moving to Elgin
Got any 300lb. girlfriends you can introduce me to?

  10. Gwen Says:

    @Big Luv
Actually I do have some girls friends I could introduce you to…

…but if you read my posts above you’ll see that MOST of my friends are under 300lbs….
230-250 is really not that big IMHO

  11. Jeremy_FA Says:

…do you wantto weigh over 300?
    I can help ;D

  12. Jeremy_FA Says:

  13. Gwen's Sister Says:

I’m interested…I love to get fatter, right now I’m 326 – but I want to be over 400, maybe even over 500. I’ve never had a dedicated feeder, but I’d love to have one (just don’t tell my husband).
