Our biggest problem in the US is our political class, which is self-serving and cheaply bought.

Charlie Crist, a Republican, exemplifies this.  He chose, today, to place his Chief-of-Staff  in Mel Martinez’s vacated Senate seat.

Why?  So to keep the seat warm for Charlie Crist in two years.

Ridiculous!

I just read a fictional book where you could hold elective office for 4 years, and then not hold ANY elected office for 4 years.  What an excellent concept. Removing “career” from politics would eviscerate our political class and make them hold real jobs. Service not servitude would be the operative word.  The book also forbade running for any political office before mid-life (age 45 in the novel). This ensured those holding office would have accomplished something outside of government before being elected.

I’d switch to that type of system in a heartbeat. The biggest threat to us is our government, which is currently operated by weird, narcissistic people that most of us would not like to have dinner with.
