Blackfive has a poignant story of a soldier returning home.
A couple of minutes later I opened the cockpit door. I found the two forward flight attendants crying, something you just do not see. I was told that after we came to a stop, every passenger on the aircraft stayed in their seats, waiting for the family to exit the aircraft. When the family got up and gathered their things, a passenger slowly started to clap their hands.
Moments later more passengers joined in and soon the entire aircraft was clapping.
I was on a flight 2 years ago where similar happened. Tears flowed freely. The family wasn’t on board that flight but the escort was and I agree with Blackfive that is among the hardest jobs in the military.

I can’t think of a hospital that was started by atheists. I can’t think of a soup kitchen run by atheists. Religious relief organizations like the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and Catholic Social Services are quicker and more efficient at dealing with with both sudden catastrophe and long-term care than any government agency. You should be glad they are there rather than to hate them. Religion is what motivated many to oppose slavery (Wilberforce). I give money to charities that care for the sick and we do a lot of that through contributions made to our church.
