Green people, not the Martians the other silly kind – Martians are very serious, just don’t understand economics.
Take wind power, please. Wind turbines that only provide power 30% or so of the day cannot be relied on for baseload power. As such, they will take some peak power (the profitable time) away from other sources of electricity – cutting their profit and their ROI.
When you cut the profit of other alternatives, such as nuclear, they become harder to justify and field. But nuclear, as an example, is clean power source that makes gobs of power ALL the time. It can be used for baseload power and for peak power.
Put another way, any subsidies to wind power are a double whammy to more effective alternatives. The subsidy could have been used for the better power scheme, AND wind once in place takes profit away that could have been used to reward the better scheme (nuclear or clean coal as examples).
Maybe Green people know this. I’m sure some do and like the fact that Wind actually wastes money and keeps us from having more power. That seems to be their goal.
