The BBC helpfully identifies the only place on earth that has a high purity quartz needed to make making silicon wafers that lie at the heart of our technological revolution.

"That quartz plant just two miles down the road," he added, "is guarded like Fort Knox. That’s a top-secret process. So we’ve got a serious commodity here."

and just to clarify the risk:

“Because the world runs on computers, we all know that now. And if we locked the gates to Mitchell County they could not make any more computers."

Because I too want to be helpful, I’ve setup a Google map from the radical Islamic Center of South Florida to the plant itself.

There you go guys… have at it. I’ll leave the details to you. Oh… so you don’t get stopped heading north, use www.speedtrap.org to check your route for irritating small town ticket writers.

I don’t mind the BBC publishing stories like this. I’ve been in the computer industry for two decades and didn’t know this. But it does highlight just how tenuous our modern society is.

And how we ought to be more careful about letting radical Islam take root in our country.
