Our candidates think this is home to millions of gullible people
The race for Utah governor seems to really be a race to see who can seem the most conservative without actually being one.
Peter Corroon was Mayor of Salt Lake County. I know… it’s weird for a county to have a Mayor, but that’s what they do. I’ve seen his ads on TV for a bit and figured since he wasn’t saying he was Republican he probably was a Democrat. But that was the only thing that clued me in. He was for guns, against abortion, and said he wants to cut the size of state government. Finally, I saw an ad where he said he was a Democrat but that he would like to introduce me to his running mate – Republican Sheryl Allen. Because BOTH parties should work hard to give the schools more money. Ick.
Here is his issues web page.
And here is the issues page for Gary Herbert the Republican incumbent. He has a lot of signs around Saint George with just his picture and Herbert/Governor”. I guess his pollsters said he photographed well.
None of these people come even close to what I would do as Governor. They both talk about spending more money on schools (waste of money). They both cow-tow to those stupidly hysterical about nuclear related economic opportunities. They both talk tough about illegal immigration but intend to do nothing about it. They seem to have no philosophy other than saying whatever is needed to not make a decision.
I will certainly vote in November, but probably not for either one of these morons.
I don’t understand how people can be like them. Why be Governor if it takes a bunch of mealy mouth half-lies to get into office. A job isn’t worth it. Self-esteem and pride matter.
It takes a different, odd, kind of person to want to lie to millions about what you really think, or even worse, to have no opinion other than whatever you need to gain office.

You’re a practical man. If you want to be elected to a political office, you have to give the voters what they want. If they are all for or against abortion or immigration, you will have to be for or against it, too. Your personal beliefs don’t matter for the office to which you are elected. If you cannot check your personal beliefs at the door, you don’t get the office.
Your basic problem isn’t with the candidates; it is with the electorate that wants some things you don’t want. We still have self-government no matter how foolish our wants.
I presume those mealy-mouthed people want to be governor because it’s a great job and ego-trip with a lot of perks. And they can do some of the things they want while they are doing the things the electorate wants.

I think they should be more willing to educate on what is the best thing to do.
Our system is fundamentally flawed because it lets politicians give them what they want via unfettered taxation of other people.
Yes, I have a problem with the electorate. That is VERY true. I consider most people to be rationalizing fools.
But… George Washington existed once, and I’d LOVE for him to make a 2nd appearance.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
