And the academy award goes to….
I’ve not been impressed with the refereeing at the World Cup. But don’t bother with what I say, soccer matters not a bit to me.

Silly sport.I watched bits and pieces. I don’t get how people will sit for 2 hours for a 0-0 tie. Bad reffing, ridiculous flops and overexuberant celebrations for the rare score. Its all vaguely homoerotic.like the Lakers saga, ill be glad when its over.

playing looks like it might be fun, and it would take good conditioning. And I suppose if I knew the intricacies of the sport I would like it better. But the low scoring and general lack of action loses me.

For fast action on a smaller field, try ice hockey. At least in soccer, you can always see the ball.

hockey… i like it in person, except it has irritating rules like icing and offsides too.

And for those who liked Freedom Fries idea when the French counseled go slower about Iraq, the French just lost to South Africa and are eliminated from the tournament without reaching the second round.

the french, having fallen the farthest, may be about to become decent allies. They’ve seen first hand what letting Muslims run around in your country can do.

Carl says:
The French have always been our allies, since 1777 when we called ourselves a country and became an enemy of their enemy. From time to time we have disagreed with them over strategy and tactics but never as an enemy. We even supported the sinking of their Navy as a means to weaken their enemy. We sometimes disagree ourselves with our government of the day, but we do not thereby abandon our loyalty to the nation. Only political opportunists engage in demonization of those who disagree with them.

I doubt you call it “political opportunism” when Obama does it.
