I”m sure every engineer at my company can find some humor (and personal history) in this post from the Oatmeal:

Now to family and friends I’ve helped with computers…. don’t worry, I don’t mind.

How many present geeks would be employed in some other trade if all the buyers of computers had to rely on their own acumen to install and maintain home computers? It is in the geeks’ interest to keep the dream alive that computers are easy to buy and use. Every geek should be doing his part.

We don’t mind helping. And we rely on handy folks, who know how to weld or cook, all the time. What is really funny about the charts is the detail. What geek hasn’t found nasties behind the computer? Or gotten a 350MB BMP file that could have been a 2mb PNG.

More than enough geeks are sitting in dinghy dwellings somewhere bent on keeping other geeks busy patching holes that us users have to pay for in time lost. We also pay charges to geeks who pester us to join their agenda. Be nice to your family geeks, tout their wares, and don’t be a common freeloader.
