image thumb13 Review: Sorcerers Apprentice
Short: Pretty good. I liked it.

Longer: Perhaps it was that last movie I saw was the icky Last Airbender, but Sorcerer’s Apprentice seemed fresh and more interesting.  The effects were cool. The story line predictable, but entertaining. The romance interests, predictable but sufferable.  But it was a good flick. The villain was suitably villainous,  the heroes heroic and the action plenty.  In a throwback to Peter and the Wolf, when different characters appeared, their “theme” would play in the sound track.  I hadn’t seen that in a while, but liked it.

About all I would change is that the Apprentice, if you shut your eyes, sounds just like Christian Slater. Maybe they are related, I don’t know. Doesn’t look like him, but does sound like him.

Also the jump from Apprentice to having the power to take down the worlds worst wizard in a couple days was a stretch. But hey, character development would have been boring. Bring on the plasma bolts!

The Sorcerers Apprentice is kid safe, mostly.  There are a three deaths, two of bad guys, which is okay, and one of an irritating by-stander. Which is okay for us adults who would LOVE to have that happen to an irritating by-stander, but maybe not for kids.  There is some sexual innuendo, but modest by modern Disney standards.
