Curtis Oda – take a seat in the corner please
Lest you think I only slam Obama…. here is something stupid a Republican is proposing here in Utah:
Rep. Curtis Oda, R-Clearfield, introduced House Bill 129 on Wednesday. The bill would provide the possibility of class A misdemeanor penalties — a year in jail, a cash fine and three years of a suspended license — for repeat offenders.
Exactly wrong! Mr. Oda may be well intentioned, or he may be actively trying to force his faith on others, or both. Who knows. Neither reason supports a stupid law.
In any event, this is a bad proposal. The law should head the other way. Eliminating the age limit and letting parents control this aspect of their children’s lives. Any “law” so widely broken needs to be re-considered. Just visit the Washington County Bookings Page and you will see underaged kids about to enter prison. Every weekend they get processed, but they still do it. The law doesn’t work and needs to be changed.
I don’t drink, but you don’t have to be a boozer think it dumb to force that view on others. It’s dumb. It doesn’t work. It causes binge drinking and makes criminals out of kids just testing their wild oats.
Drunk driving, however, should be penalized much harder than it is now. Maybe Mr. Busybody Oda can go after drunk drivers instead.
