“My role is not to advocate policy but to execute it.”

Arron Conley
President of the Class of 2010
United States Military Academy

He had been asked about Obama’s Afghanistan speech.

I agree with Mr. Conley, but would stress that when you feel the policy isn’t wise you should be willing to resign rather than participate.

Really? You would give up a career you had worked hard towards all your life because of one idiot president who will likely be gone in four years? You would really do that, or you’re just saying he should, if he had any conviction?
Your solution is unrealistic, and also denies the country the best and brightest leaders, who would be best able to carry out the poicies, even if they have flaws.

Rather than get killed for something I felt was not worth dying for? Quite likely.

Such a step isn’t for minor issues, but for something major. Like a war you disagree with, or orders that violate the Constitution.

Anything less makes you a mercenary not a soldier.

When was the last war anyone felt like dying for? You could make an argument that WWII wasn’t worth dying for.
They are all mercenaries, or else they would be doing it for free, for love of country.I’m sure there are elements of both. I don’t have a problem with that. I have a bigger problem with weanies like O, who refused to serve, and even as CINC make clear their contempt of the military.

Looking at what has become of the country, maybe it wasn’t?

But that wasn’t the point at all. The POINT is that his philosophy is right, up to a point – and that point is when you believe the policy will do the country irreparable harm.

As to Barry… yes, he is hardly worthy of commanding such people.
