Politicians like to lie with partial truths.
So, for instance, when Sarah Palin says Obamacare will lead to Death Panels, socialized medicine proponents say “it isn’t in the bill”.
Well, that is true – official death panels aren’t in the bill. But she didn’t say it was in the bill, just that the bill leads to them.
Those concerned with this bill aren’t looking at just the bill, we are looking at where the bill heads. For instance, we can see in other countries that followed this path have “death panels” that decide some patients “aren’t worth it”. We can even see it in some states that have public option health care – such as Oregon, whose health care board is in the news today for denying a cancer patient (now dead) life extending drugs.
So the next time some Democrat says “it isn’t in the bill”, I’d like a reporter or town hall visitor to ask “is it on the path the bill sets us on?”.
Saying “it isn’t in the bill” is a hiding response that is really a signal “for hell yes that is true”.
