I do not support any stimulus spending bills. They are pork trains that will not create long term jobs nor return on investment. Also, I do not believe you are factoring in maintenance costs on the things created, which will only add to our spending woes in the future.
I’m sure your head dances with ideas of what you could tack on for Utah. But that is a bad bargain, since 49 other states play the same game.
Assuming a stimulus is desired, then the right course is a payroll tax holiday. It can be done quickly, stopped quickly, and the effects are immediate.
A 3 month payroll tax holiday combined with immediate and long term reduction of the upper income tax rates would stimulate the economy into overdrive and also have the side-benefit of reducing the role of government.
In other notes to you, and in my public writings, I’ve said I think you lost your soul to the DC system. Prove me wrong. Do the right thing. Don’t just do what a caricature of a Congressman would do.

Ken: somehow my comment got on the wrong stimulus article but this one is more than right on. Unfortunately, you are peeing in the wind. They will not listen and there are still enuf rich folks out there who will be able to afford nice houses, gas & big guzzlers and private schools so that they won’t support the little people who are really struggling. Before they use their influence and political pull (they are the ones who donate $100,000+ to campaigns and are owed favors etc) they have to hurt somewhere.

I don’t see why politicians hurting wealthier people (like me) helps poor people. It helps politicians gain power, but that is it. It hurts poorer people who would other wise get jobs and opportunity from the investments successful make.
Remember, somebody builds the house, the SUV and works in the private schools.
Unfortunately, politicians tap into your resentment and use it for their gain – not yours.

Guess I didn’t express myself exactly right. There are just enough wealthy or well off people who can afford to pay $4.50 a gallon, pay for the big SUV and house and get enough tax breaks that they just go on as usual while the little folks struggle to get to work (building the house or SUV) and wish that the guy in the big hummer had to work for it. I know that you do and probably they do but when you have to decide pills or gas, Its hard to look at it fairly. There are probably a lot more of us than you out there. And, its hard to watch those who are supposed to keep it fair diddling away billions in pork. I can’t compete with you and Carl & TR for retoric but you get my drift.
