I certainly favor abolishing public schools. Or more precisely, publically funded schools.

http://www.curriculumconnection.net/thomasjeffeducation.htm

Most Americans are dumber than rocks and that includes Congress, because they studied comic books, sci-fi, who done-its, and skipped science and history. Most get left behind, can't speak or write English, never pay attention to details, and are lousy workers to boot. Teachers are not mentors, kids do not listen to anyone who won't gratify them immediately, and the education system isn't functioning period!
Jefferson's ideal has been replaced by John Dewey's. It won't work so we should start over at home and abolish public schools. That way we will get better students and won't need foreigners to pick lettuce.

we will just differ.

However, it seems obvious that borrowing trillions doesn't contribute to the General Welfare.

As to the people... I'm not one of those that think very highly of "the people". most people are morons. Likable, but stupid. Like the old woman who sat behind me at the movies on Friday. They chattered on, bitching about the cost of pills and how small social security was, when I'm quite sure most of them were well past the point of contribution + decent ROI. In other words, they were into their grandkids money and had no clue, or were rationalizing it away.

There is nothing to discuss really. The nation was doomed in 1913. We live in the death throes now. You think it will last longer than I do. You've been fooled by false prosperity of easy credit with government backing. I think it will unravel faster than anyone can imagine. Rats like Obama just scurry about at the bidding of their union masters trying to rearrange the bread crumbs.

do we deserve this - maybe we do. I didn't vote for any of it, but enough of us did.

Begging to differ, the general welfare clause does allow the Congress to do pretty much whatever the majority sees in the interest of the nation except for a few definitely unallowed things (censorship, secret arrests, bill of attainder, self-incrirmination, etc). Your main complaint has to be with democracy, not with violating the Constitution. We have courts to control Constitutional violations, but we have no effective restraint on the people's electing legislators to do their bidding however ill advised. Until the people want a real solution they are willing to pay for, we will muddle along avoiding as much pain as possible.

Get out there and convince the people.
