The Nelson’s have a new family member today… a Glock 35 kitted up to be a USPSA Limited Class race gun…
You will recall that I have a custom STI 2011 that many consider to be the best Limited race gun available. That pistol is now Brian’s. We’d made an agreement that when he got better than me, he’d get the best pistol. Right now we are about even, but he is moving up fast, so I went ahead and handed it over.
About this Glock… It pretty much checks the box on improvements over a standard Glock 35:
- Mag well to speed up reloads
- Dawson fiber-optic front sight
- Dawson adjustable rear site
- extended magazine release button
- squared trigger guard to prevent slippage
- notched back of trigger guard to permit higher grip
- race gritty grip
- Zev trigger and connector. A smooth and crisp 2 lb trigger
- titanium striker, mainly smoothes out the trigger pull and reset
- lighter IMSI recoil spring
- T.H.E. tungsten guide rod which puts weight up front to minimize recoil
- grip backstrap plug – again for weight
The only things left to do, perhaps, would be a KKM or Bar-sto, match barrel. And perhaps more slide lightning (it already has a ported slide).
So I’ll compete with this or a Springfield XDM configured similarly going forward. Which ever I like better, I’ll use. The other will either be sold or used as a backup gun.

Nice blaster Ken. Did you put the gun together yourself or purchase it as a package?

Hey Charlie – I got it from another shooter who was switching to Production class so he could be better practiced with his carry gun.

Im intrigued by the grip. Who does those? I have Hogue slip ons but that looks pretty nice.
2 Lbs! That’s pretty light!

that is just grip tape. Sort of like skate board tape. It makes for a rock solid grip.

Looks good! I am just waiting for my G35…any day, now. It’s bone-stock, so I have a lengthy list of upgrades to throw on it!

Hi Jamie… I’d suggest the trigger and magwell first. Although if you do the magwell you have to then get the Grams extensions for the magazines. The tweaking never stops (-:
My plan was to get a G35 stock and build it up, but then this gun was offered and I couldn’t resist.

Tweaking…I know! I do that with everything, although this is my first attempt with a GLOCK. Sounds like you got a great deal with yours.
I have a Dawson Ice Magwell and Arredondo +5 base pads ready to put on. I will need some help from you guys when it comes to aftermarket triggers, internals, etc. I should be out to the first match in Feb, then I am off to Front Sight for President’s Day weekend.

Sweet. They teach Weaver at Front Sight… try not to be corrupted to much (-:

Weaver is overrated! Isosceles all the way!

I’ve got two certificates to Front Site and one to Blackwater that I haven’t used (yet).
Have fun at Front Site. I’ve heard the training is excellent and that they don’t’ mind if you stick with the isosceles after trying the Weaver.

Maybe the gun has changed since the pictures but that rear sight is a Heinie SlantPro not a Dawson Adjustable.
In fact I prefer the Heinie sight myself.
