Al Gore made money on a “green” company and caught some grief about it:
Representative Marsha Blackburn, Republican of Tennessee, asserted at a hearing this year that Mr. Gore stood to benefit personally from the energy and climate policies he was urging Congress to adopt.
Gore responds:
“Do you think there is something wrong with being active in business in this country?” Mr. Gore said. “I am proud of it. I am proud of it.”
But take a look at the way the company made money:
The deal appeared to pay off in a big way last week, when the Energy Department announced $3.4 billion in smart grid grants. Of the total, more than $560 million went to utilities with which Silver Spring has contracts. Kleiner Perkins and its partners, including Mr. Gore, could recoup their investment many times over in coming years.
I’ll be more impressed when something Gore invests in makes money from customers making choices – not from politically inspired grants of freshly printed money.
So Mr. Gore… will you put your money where your mouth is? Or will you continue to rely on the government to force my money into your mouth?

Blackburn is a barely tolerable member of the permanent political class. Better then most, but worse than any randomly chosen person from her district.
What do you think about the other Tennessean in the post… Al Gore?
