The head of the American Legion met with President Obama today regarding the administration’s desire to charge private insurance (and thus those who pay for the insurance) for service related injuries:
"It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan," said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. "He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it."
That this is where he draws the line. That Barack Obama won’t just “print” another 1/2 billion to honor our obligations to our veterans shows you that he places them below ACORN, UAW, and any other number of Democratic constituencies services in the “stimulus” bill that doesn’t stimulate. I know I’d much rather honor our obligations to our veterans than any of the 8,000+ ear marks in the Omnibus budget, or any of the salamanders in San Francisco “saved” by the stimulus bill.
This is appalling. Impeach him.

I know we have a socialist president and a bunch of democrat clowns running the show, but can a dem congress really be stupid enough to pass a plan like this? Especially with the current CinC’sl ack of military cred?
Maybe we need to amned the Constitution to require military service to be president. Its clear from the ones who haven’t served ( Clinton, O ) that they just don’t get it.

The trivial amount of money – 1/2 a billion shows how much he hates the military. Amazingly stupid. And amazingly shallow.

What do you think was the total military time of Lincoln, FDR, Wilson, and Hoover? More “conservative” talk of changing the Constitution when policy doesn’t go “right”?
March 17th, 2009 at 8:39 am
FDR couldn’t. Lincoln served in the militia. Wilson was a complete failure. Hoover… you use him as an example? Quite “debating” and start thinking through the merits of ideas.
and this isn’t “policy difference” this is maliciousness.

I dont think much of any of them anyway so their military experience or lack of doesnt matter. Why not defend the two current examples that you voted for?

Carter had military experience and we still pay for his disasters. And LBJ did too (sort of, flying out to collect a medal). We still pay for him too. Oddly both were voted for by a certain commenter here too….
I’m not saying military service guarantees bad results. I would suggest, instgead, that an affirmative vote by commenter “carl” is a much better leading indicator of poor Presidential performance.

The federal and state governments have always paid disabled soldiers along with age pensioners, even if only with bounty land. It’s dishonorable not to put such folks at the head of the government pay line.
Linking this to presidential politics detracts from the main issue. Past politics at this level has been, and will always be, the same regardless of military experience. Our system was designed for it.
