Keith Hennessey writes a very cogent and analytical blog. He has been covering health care recently. Today his post is about Washington addressing the wrong problem:
Keith points out that most DC solutions focus on taking money from others to pay for the “uninsured”. That is a natural DC solution – they can take from a few, give to a few, get credit, get votes and do harm. All in one act – sweet!
Keith points out that the real problem is that insurance costs too much and is rising faster than income. This means that the blue box problem just gets harder and harder.
By focusing on the Red Box problem, everybody is helped. Those who have insurance, those who can’t afford insurance, and those of us forced by government to pay for other people’s insurance.
Naturally, since it makes the most sense, Washington won’t touch it.
