Washington State saved a trial:
The man suspected of gunning down four police officers in a suburban coffee shop was shot and killed by a lone Seattle patrol officer investigating a stolen car early Tuesday, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Four other people were arrested for allegedly helping the suspect elude authorities during a massive two-day manhunt.
If only Eric Holder would learn about the benefits of this method of trial avoidance in the case of the terrorists he plans to try as civilians in New York.

I covered my feelings on this subject on the blog about Huckabee further on.
As the mother of a CA cop, I get nigh on physically sick when I hear about a cop being killed. I worry constantly about him and as far as I am concerned, they should practice the “eye for an eye” justice. Give the guy to the parents of the little 12 year old he raped and when they are done, whats left to the parents, wives, etc of the four policemen he killed to finish him off.
Not a part of the LDS teachings, but my gut says it should be.

The good thing is this guy legally signed his own death warrant by not immediately surrenduring to the officer that stopped him. Even if he had turned and ran away, and presented no immediate threat, the cop could legally have shot him.
Thanks, Huckabee, great job!. Here’s another almost as bad:

I’m not sure what is more annoying- a typical liberal or a stupid Republican. Probably the Republican, because I expect slightly more from him. FOX was trying to clean up last night- they had this fool on O’Reilly , and the blowhard was defending him. Unbelievable.

Let me ask you: you are a governor and are asked to consider the situation of a man who, at 16, committed robbery and theft and recieved a 108 YEAR sentence. You are then presented with a statement from the judge who presided over the case saying that the sentence was excessive and that it should be shortened to allow the possibility of parole. What do you do?
I think this witch hunt is misdirected. He was charged with CHILD RAPE. Washington State had him IN CUSTODY and them let him out on BOND. Screw why he got out on the burglary charges, why wasn’t he held without bail for parole violations and rape? IIRC, remanding is SOP when dealing with parole violations.
Get your witch hunt away from the public figure and focus on the BROKEN SYSTEM. The corrections system that presumably facilitated his transition into a murderer, the legal system argument that Arkansas and Washington had that let the sonofabitch out on bail. Situations like this make me thank God that there is still some justice measured in calibers.
Hindsight being 20/20, the commutation was a bad idea. But honestly, unless there were red flags saying this guy was dangerous, 108 years for burglary is excessive. Also, it wasn’t a release, it simply allowed him to get in front of a parole board while he still had a pulse.

The Huckabee situation would be mush less of a focus on HIM if it weren’t that he did so many MORE of these things than his predecessors.
If I were governor people wouldn’t come to me with stories about excessive punishment because they would know I wouldn’t be very receptive.
Sure, Washington State is at fault too. But he’d still be in jail if it weren’t for Huckabee. As would a lot of other bad people.
Would I be so hard on a public figure that hadn’t used evangelical Christian angst over evangelical Mormons for political gain? Yes. As an example, I thought the Dukakis pardon of Willy Horton disqualified him.
My main point was that Huckabee and George Bush incorrectly interpreted teachings of their faith onto public policy with results that were bad for everybody involved.

As I said, they are mushy, trimmed down P.C. Christians. They, along with many others take only the parts of the Bible they like and dismiss the rest as being “for the Hebrews” or using dispensationalist logic.
I do agree that I think that the way that Huckabee and Bush seem to have pushed policy based on their “religion” misses almost everything that actually matters.
