image thumb17 Good Idea: Justified Homicide on the rise Go away. I’ve called 911. I have an AR-15, Shotgun, Glock.

Justified homicide is a fancy way of saying “killing people who invade your house”. And it is on the rise.  And it is a good thing. Because ultimately that means burglaries and robberies will drop.

San Antonio, TX, for instance, has risen from 7 to 17:

While the total number of killings in San Antonio barely budged in 2008 — up only slightly from the 134 recorded the prior year — detectives noted an upswing in cases in which the shooter was found to be within his rights, from instances of apparent self-defense to protecting one’s home and family.

This could mean more homes are being invaded. Or it could mean that homeowners are defending themselves more frequently. Or that they are defending themselves with more effectively (firearms not bats).

I think it is probably all three. Texas recently improved their Castle Doctrine laws.  I’d like to see Utah do the same – it is listed as a state with a “weak” Castle law (requiring retreat within the home).

I think this is a good thing.  Dead robbers rob no more. And live robbers have no wish to become dead ones.  The trend spikes up now until robbers adjust. I doubt they will live a crime free life, but at least it won’t be doing it in somebody’s house.
