As readers will know a couple weeks back I got a new customized STI, Brazos Custom, and then further customized 2011 .40 caliber competition pistol.
My match results are not in yet… I’ll update this post when they are.
It worked flawlessly. But, hey, I expected that from my Glock 34 as well.
All issues were related to me, myself, and I. Never having really competed with a 1911 or 2011, on two stages I had what I perceived as jams, but were really me doing two stupid things.
The first was inadvertently flipping the safety lever up. The grip is different on this, you place your right thumb on top of the safety:
Not an STI, but you get the idea. Thumb on top of safety.
My thumb was getting below it and coming up in recoil and turning on the safety. This happened after magazine reloads.
Second… My right hand was not engaging the grip safety, again after a grip change due to magazine reloads.
Your right hand has to keep that tight into that little curve or the grip safety isn’t released
The good news is my point count was up quite a bit, both due to more accurate shooting and because in USPSA scoring the higher caliber .40 counts minor misses as more points than the 9mm I had been using.
Time… hard to tell. I was also trying new shoes and I won’t be using them again. They didn’t bite into the gravel and I slipped a few times. I’ll stick with my high cut Original S.W.A.T. boots.
