Today we are busy packing for a 6 week RV trip we embark on tomorrow. The journey will take us from St. George, UT through Las Vegas, Lake Havasu, Gallup, Amarillo, Tulsa, Branson, Nashville, Williamsburg, D.C., NYC, Niagara Falls, Chicago, Mall of America, Mt Rushmore, Little Bighorn, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, to list a few…
So last night, in preparation for the big venture we watched:
It was pretty funny. Funnier than if we had seen it back in 2006, because a lot of the humor would have been lost unless we had the knowledge we gained prepping for this trip.
So tomorrow we are off. To follow the trip just use the “RV Trip” category on the right.

Don’t forget, “People are funnier than anybody”. Wallet and keys are hard to replace. Wasps will love your national bug collection. Smoking is expensive, especially if it’s your brakes. So is 10W-40W motor oil in your generator, 30W only and often. Plug in after the downpour!

[...] Ken’s blog would have you believe that our RV trip just magically appeared two days before departure all planned and provisioned. Such is not the case. It was actually a few months in the planning and preparation. After deciding that a trip around the country would be a fun, educational and family bonding experience, it was a matter of deciding how to do it. Let’s rent an RV. Hmmm…that seems so expensive. Why don’t we just take our SUV and stay in hotels along the way? Ken refused that option as it would be too uncomfortable in the SUV. Also, hotels would be more expensive as well because we will absolutely have to get more than one room. How about a conversion van? They’re roomier than the SUV and we could actually sleep in them on occasion. We found out that these are expensive to rent as well, if you can find a rental. What about buying one? Let’s just say Ken is a big fan of the “Let’s just buy it†approach. “If we don’t like it, we can just sell it later.†He also usually argues that whatever “it†is will retain its value. (It’s an old marital argument we have from time to time that each of us thinks we won.) We own more than a few things that sit around not being used and anything we have actually sold (not given away) was at my initiative. Something I really hate to do because I’m never sure if I’ve gotten a good price etc. etc. Anyway, I digress. I kind of put my foot down on buying (at least not buying an RV). Luckily (in my mind) we couldn’t find a conversion van that met our travelling needs so we didn’t buy one. [...]
