Just a thought.. it isn’t JUST the sheer size of the deficit that should cause such concern over our state and federal governmental finances.  A real concern should also be how poorly the debt was used. It went to buy votes, not to invest in anything that will yield returns to pay for the loans.

Additionally, interest on the debt will crowd out productive investment in the future.

Trouble looms – on all fronts.

If the people of a state want something from the federal government and they elect a representative who promises he will make it happen, and it happens, was that just vote buying? If so, where does democracy start? Who is to be the neutral arbiter of what government action is good or bad? There is none; we use elections to decide who makes government programs. We elect them and they together decide in Congress, just like the Founders intended.

Yes. But vote buying is more typified by union stuff, highways to nowhere, and drug benefits.

The founders never intended an income tax and wealth redistribution and related non-sense. Sure, they left a hole that the progressives drove through.
