Subject: Excellent Practical Shooting Videos

Matt,

My son (age 11) & I just did our first practice session designed from your "How to Practice" DVD.

Thanks for the excellent advice, not on just on the drills, but how to think about practice.  We really felt like we improved today.

We’ve only owned a non-rimfire handgun (Glock 34) for 8 months or so. We bought it to start IDPA shooting. Til now I’ve just been trying to sort out how to improve via the web. Your videos have really jump started us in the last couple weeks.

I now have a 2.33 second 20 yard all zeros (IDPA) Bill Drills as my bench mark.  He did a 3.72 (3 zeros). And of course we did the other drills as well, I just can’t remember the #’s (we did log them). Weaknesses are noted… and we have a plan to remedy them.

One thing… a lot of mag loading )-:   I may hire a neighbor boy who doesn’t shoot to load mags and tape targets to speed up our next session.  $20 bucks to not burden my broken and not healed properly thumb sounds like a steal.

The first acid test will be at our club match tomorrow.   And then in 2 months at the Nevada State IDPA Championship.

Maybe we will see you there (Las Vegas).

Thanks again!  I feel the videos were some of the best $ I’ve spent on shooting.

Regards,

Do you have a Speed Loader. I find it very helpful and a lot quicker and easier

They are for revolvers, which we don’t shoot. The sport does have revolver divisions and we get one or two folks a match shooting them. The matches we shoot permit 10 rounds in the magazine + 1 in the tube to start. On a 31 round stage that means 3 or 4 reloads depending on when I think I can reload without losing time (usually when moving).

    I shoot a Glock 34, my boy a Springfield XD(m), both in 9mm.

The speed loader for the glock helps in loading the clip. My wife, daughter and I love it. We have Glock 17′s 9mm. I guess I am not understanding. why not have extra loaded clips?

  4. Ken Says:

Ah… I misunderstood. Yes, I start with 3 loaded magazines, at least, depending on the stage. We have a couple magazine speed loaders we use. They help somewhat, but 4 or 5 magazines in my thumb is shot. My G34 is a “target” version of the 17. Lighter slide, 6″ barrel, 5 lb trigger, adjustable sites.

Of course, if you to stop some folks use this:
