Sad Puppy means I miswrote (thanks Dean Barnett for the idea)

My Dad asked me to clarify what I meant by “police are useless” in my post “Home Security”:

I don’t think I’m being a gun kook here.. the police are useless and with an interstate splitting our town we get all elements coming through.

I’m glad he asked. I need to be more precise. It is hard since I don’t want to spend all day blogging or hours writing a post.

What I meant was that the police in our town are useless.  And that is still un-precise.  My home defense plan includes bunkering down and calling them. So I don’t think them totally useless.   Perhaps I should have left that line out, or been more precise in saying “they wouldn’t be of use in the critical initial confrontation”.

Ultimately, I probably let irritation with them over other matters creep into that posting. What am I irritated with them about?  Perhaps “uncreative’, “unimaginative”, “interested only in giving tickets to drivers” would be starts.

I’ve been burglarized at my house three times and in vehicles three times since moving to St. George.  The police show up to take reports the next day. But beyond that, nothing.

For instance, the night my truck was stolen, 6 truck/trailer combinations from St. George were stolen and recovered in Las Vegas and Mesquite. There are only two ways to get to those towns from St. George.  A car stopping truck/trailers moving down those roads at between 3 and 4Am Sun morning would have caught these thieves.

Other than in figuring out novel ways to give tickets out to make money for the town, our police department just doesn’t seem creative. They also haven’t been interested in addressing our illegal alien influx, which is probably at the root of the burglaries.

So… sorry for imprecise writing.  I’ll try to do better.

Small town cop blues. Except its not such a small town. Where I live is bigger and has a higher crime rate, but nothing like what has happened to you has happened to me.
Maybe the Ontario PD, which doesn’t pressure cops to write tickets, but likes them to take bad guys to jail, has it right. Look on the bright side- maybe the accident rate is lower in SG due to all the traffic enforcement.

Please go ahead and put the regulations in place. Companies goals are to maximize profits and so relying on good will is NOT going to work…at least in the long term.
