Our government should heed this sign

</rant>

My wife suggested I blog a bit while I”m in San Diego. So I dipped my toes back into the news of the world after two weeks ignoring it.

Hey… politicians are still stupid, devious, and dishonest.  Nobody knows how to stop the oil leak.  The government persists in making it harder to cleanup that need be. Oh… we cracked one trillion in deficit in the first 6 months of 2010. And apparently the problem with the state of Utah having a list of illegal aliens and not arresting them is that the list was released.

In other words… can I put my head back in the sand?

I saw a lovely view of flag fluttering high above the building next to me today…  and I thought… ick – I may hate what America has become as much as Obama hates what it once was.

It would be one thing if we were in a hole and not digging, that might be smart. But these fools seem hell bent on trying EVERY stupid idea before socking it to us for their lavish and un-earned pensions when they retire.

Republican, Democrat, all of them suck, largely because they are creatures of a corrupt system put in place for neighbors to elect agents to go out and rob neighbors.  In other words, go ahead, burn the flag, it doesn’t represent anything I really care about any longer.

image thumb42 Don’t just sit there, do something I hate buying unemployed cats beer and cable tv.

It bugs me that Congress is about to extend unemployment benefits again.

Look, I’m not unsympathetic to their plight, but I don’t see the benefit of spending money just to delay (and prolong) a reckoning that must be faced.  Nor do I blame them for taking the money Congress offers. But enough is enough.

Cut the payments. Let them adjust their job, pay and lifestyle expectations. Maybe former middle managers will drive  trucks. Or manage a McDonalds.  Some will fall out the bottom and will be helped by state or city funded welfare.  So be it.

The idea of paying people to sit around and do nothing for large periods of time appalls me.   It just seems so wasteful, at a time when we can ill afford waste.

Have them mow the lawns of people that pay taxes. Or join the military. Or something.  Don’t just just sit there and watch cable and collect my money or money freshly printed for you from the future.  And don’t say “I’m trying to find work”. No you aren’t. If you were you’d have found something – maybe at reduced pay, but something.  I see people doing it all the time. How about the former well paid construction worker that now cleans my office building? Or the former payroll bookkeeper I knew that now is a shift manager at McDonalds.  I respect them profoundly for the steps they’ve taken to bring money in.

Is this a harsh view?  No. It is a real view. You do not have a right to your previous job. You do not have a right to sit on your ass collecting other people’s money forever. I don’t care what you do, just do something.

image thumb14 Brown behaves as expected
Elect me. I’m different. Not.

Scott Brown, Senator elect (R-Amazing), now demands to be seated.

/rant

Uhmm… Scott, grow a pair earlier next time – okay?   I don’t like your initial instincts of buddying up to the establishment and trying not to make waves in return for promises of good committees.

So what happened?   You didn’t get your committees? Or did a focus group say your “Q” was dropping?

That’s right Scottie.. quit behaving like a careerist politician. I know it is tough, since you are one.

What a crappy state MA is that this is the best we can squeeze out of its corrupted loins.

A letter follows that I sent to Wal-Mart tonight praising one Assistant Manager, and well… having a few other things to say about a clerk and another Assistant Manager. Names redacted.

<Good Mgr> ,

Thanks for helping tonight. I feel much better for having run into you. If not, I’d be writing a very different letter and sharing it with a few hundred friends.

Please forward this to whoever matters at Wal-Mart.

First off… I want to thank Wal-Mart for having you on staff.  One person did make a difference to my view of the store.

This evening I tried to get recompense for having incorrect ammo sold to me store when on a hunt in Richfield.  Both types are labeled ".243" but one was right for my son’s gun, the other not.  An easy mistake for the clerk to make, and easy mistake for a tired shopper to overlook when stocking up after a long day hunting.

Let me summarize my experience tonight at the Washington store:

<Clerk> – part-timer in Sporting Goods: "You should have checked what the clerk in Richfield handed you. Why should I trust you, I’ve seen murderers that look like you".

<Evil Asst Mgr> :  "Why should I take the loss on Richfield’s error"?

<Good Asst Mgr>:  "Let’s go take care of this".

Me – satisfied customer "Thanks".

Despite a decent outcome, I’m still a bit miffed that it was this difficult and, frankly, this hostile.  The Washington, UT Wal-Mart  might want to train its staff and some assistant managers that customers are not out to cheat them and that viewing the situation from the customers eyes might be useful to both the store’s long term performance and also their general good will about their work.  I knew <Evil Asst Mgr> and <Bitter Clerk> were chortling as my son and I left.  And I was hopping mad over the mistreatment.  I didn’t care what "policy" was.  I didn’t care what ATF says. In my eyes, Wal-Mart had done me wrong and I wanted it right.  <Good Asst Mgr> cut right to that viewpoint and saved Wal-Mart quite a bit of business over the next few months.

Regards,
Ken Nelson
St. George, UT

As an aside: I’ve looked at the spending I control at WalMart… between home and business, certainly a few hundred each month, sometimes over a $1,000.  WalMart, you never know who will show up, treating everybody fairly works.

Drudge headlines:

image thumb8 Not that I would complain

/rant

I know Drudge is just playing “gotcha” with the Obama administration. And I enjoy catching Obama in a lie as much as the next fellow (although it is boringly easy to do).

I for one feel that the middle class could use  a good tax increase. I’d like them to pay their fair share.

Only when the masses have a direct fiscal attachment  to government actions will those actions start to become responsible.  It is hard for me to feel sympathy for a whiny middle class that keeps begging for “cash for clunkers” with funds stolen from my productivity.

This is why I favor a flat tax rate for all. Let them feel the burn for once.

WRT middle class tax… obviously I oppose it.  What I want is for my tax rate to match theirs… at whatever it is. This will make government lean and responsive.

image thumb107 Rant: This time you go to far Barry!

.<rant>

The campaign is over.  Faux State of the Union crap is silly. AND you messed up my DVR schedule. Punk.

Nobody believes your shtick any more anyway. You are on a one-way slide to Carter-ville, 10 points a week til you hit the rock bottom of hard core racists and socialists who love you know matter what you do.

Shut up!  Your resonant chest cavities don’t fool the market. Nothing you say will help, only what you do. So do something RIGHT instead of screwing with my DVR schedule!

Love,

Ken

Not a Game

Politics, Rant Comments Off

image thumb56 Not a Game
Fix your game lust with this, not our lives.

<rant>

I tire of hearing Democrats and Republicans talk about this stimulus boondoggle as if it were a game.  Grow up!

“We won” says Obama. Yeah but just about half the country DIDN’T VOTE for you. You don’t have a mandate for squat buddy, certainly not a mandate to make us socialists.

And “It’s good for Republicans to see Democrats behave so crazy”.  That is stupid talk too – it isn’t good for Republican’s to live in a screwed up country. They shouldn’t let the Democrats do their wild ideas just because they might pick up a seat or two in the next election.

Above all I HATE the politicians saying “I have to do something”. NO YOU DON’T.  We elect you to go up there and think these things through and do what is BEST FOR US, not FOR YOU.

Grow up idiots. Real people are out here depending on you to do the right thing, not play games.

So far, you are 0 for everything that matters.

Sometimes I just wish an earthquake would swallow up the U.S. Capitol Building during a State of the Union address and all these assholes would just disappear for a while. Sure there are some good ones there, but they are few and far between and, frankly, I’m happy to sacrifice them so that we have NONE of them.

image thumb29 <Rant>: Thanks for nothing young people!

Planned 9/11 and other atrocities.
But let’s not ask him any “hard” questions.

You know, I go and defend you young people all the time. I hate how the oldsters are ripping you (and me off). And this is how you repay me?  You give us Barack Obama?

US President Barack Obama’s nominee to head the CIA, Leon Panetta, has condemned the interrogation technique "waterboarding" as "torture".

My only consolation is that it is you young pups, not us arthritic oldsters, that will have to fight off the Islamic hordes Obama, Panetta and the other host of naive fools you’ve foisted on us will let in.

Note the careful wording in “we won’t prosecute those who waterboarded”.  Why bust your ass for this country when fools like this just want to use your sweat, tears and loss of humanity as political fodder with the Marxist left?

Sigh.  Thanks for nothing 18-30 year un-married voters who gave us Barry “I’ll do anything if it isn’t what Bush did” Obama.
