Words can’t really describe how disgusted I am with Jim Matheson.  Here is the letter I sent him today:

Soon to be Ex-Congressman Matheson:

I can’t believe you are going to vote for this health care monstrosity.

You’ve fooled Utahans for years, but this year it is over.  I will work for and donate to Morgan Philpot to ensure you need to beg for a judgeship like your brother got in return for your vote betraying Utah.

It isn’t policy differences that have me disgusted with Matheson, it is that he continues to LIE to Utahans about his real beliefs and positions.

Do not vote for Waxman/Marky cap and trade bill.

It won’t help the environment. It will hurt Utah severely. And it will hurt the nation severely.

The only reason to vote for it is if you are bought and sold by some large businesses who plan to make money off cap & trade corruption.

Are you interested in Utah and this nation, or are you just another bought & sold Democrat?

Some will write you that the BCI has a surplus in this fund, and thus doesn’t need the fee increase.  I agree with that and feel that the fee increase will decrease BCI revenue from CFP permits.

But my reservations about this are less financially driven. I feel it is important for as many Utahans as possible to be responsible armed citizens.  I only want actions from the legislature that encourage responsible citizens to carry arms safely and for all of our benefit.

If anything you should lower or remove fees or channel what revenues are raised into promoting concealed firearms carry as something any responsible and civic minded Utahan should consider doing.

Subject: Jim Matheson: Fiscal Conservative or Typical Lying Politician?

Last fall voters in the 2nd Congressional district sent Jim Matheson back to the U.S. Congress.   Matheson pitched himself as a "different" kind of Democrat, as a fiscal conservative who would not rubber stamp what Pelosi and her merry band of Socialists pushed.

Matheson, unfortunately for Utahans and America, flip-flopped 2 weeks into the new Congress by voting for over 1 trillion dollars of pork spending in the "stimulus" bill that President Obama then signed into law.  That bill, more about political rewards than economic stimulus, paid off Democratic constituencies to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars. Jim sold us, our kids, and their kids into debt for the price of a few road projects in Utah.

Do you feel misled?   I do.   Matheson may hope that in 1 and 1/2 years we will have forgotten his lock step march to socialism.   I hope you don’t forget.  I know I’ll call every future tax rise, inflation, devaluation of our currency, and theft of Utah lands by the permanent Democratic majority, a "Jim Matheson" moment.

You blew it on the first Stimulus vote.

You can, however, redeem yourself on the vote on what results from the Senate/House conference reconciling their two bills.

So are you the fiscal conservative promised during the election? Or are you a Pelosi Democrat lying his way to office on the basis of a famous Utah name?

Governor Huntsman,

I heard you support Obama’s trillion dollar stimulus plan?  True?

If so, I vehemently disagree and question your judgment as well as your sincerity in claiming Ronald Reagan as a role model.

Utah and Utahan’s do not need a trillion dollars in wasteful Federal pork spending.

Note to blog readers… these are notes I actually do send or fax to politicians.

Senator’s Hatch & Bennett,

I run a software company in St. George, UT.  We sell primarily to companies that make things with computers inside them. Like cars, cell phones, airplanes, and almost any other “smart” product made in America.  Approximately 1/3rd of our revenues come from overseas – from companies like Siemens, Nokia, Airbus and LG Electronics.   Roughly 50% of our sales come from companies that export goods from the US – companies like General Electric, Boeing and Honeywell.

I’m very concerned that the “Buy America” provisions will disrupt export markets and the companies that rely on them.

Each morning I arise to orders and questions from Europe. Before I go to bed I see orders and questions from the Far East.  All of these companies rely on selling in their internal markets and also to the US. 

Hurt them and you hurt me and the high paying, community enriching, high benefits jobs I provide in St. George.

While it is tempting to take a hit of what Richard Fisher, head of the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank, calls “economic crack”:

"Let me just be blunt. Protectionism is the crack cocaine of economics. It may provide a high. It’s addictive and it leads to economic death,"

The best thing Americans can do is to reward the best product. Wherever it is made. And to then know that America and American’s will thrive on such competition.

And the best thing you can do in the coming days is to vote down this stimulus bill.

Congressman Matheson:

I was disappointed by your vote for S-CHIP. The federal government has no role in that area. If Utah wants to help its kids, it should and can. This was just a back door attempt to get socialized medicine on a larger scale.

Also, I URGE you to NOT vote for the stimulus package currently being porked and bloated up in various committees.

I do not support any stimulus spending bills. They are pork trains that will not create long term jobs nor return on investment. Also, I do not believe you are factoring in maintenance costs on the things created, which will only add to our spending woes in the future.

I’m sure your head dances with ideas of what you could tack on for Utah. But that is a bad bargain, since 49 other states play the same game.

Assuming a stimulus is desired, then the right course is a payroll tax holiday. It can be done quickly, stopped quickly, and the effects are immediate.

A 3 month payroll tax holiday combined with immediate and long term reduction of the upper income tax rates would stimulate the economy into overdrive and also have the side-benefit of reducing the role of government.

In other notes to you, and in my public writings, I’ve said I think you lost your soul to the DC system.  Prove me wrong. Do the right thing. Don’t just do what a caricature of a Congressman would do.
