Hey Young dude…  Won’t you please pay his health insurance.

Max Baucus has a GREAT idea: Force young people who think health insurance is an unneeded expense, and healthy people who are willing to gamble, to buy health insurance for us old and sick folks.

“Every American has a right to affordable, high-quality health care,” Mr. Baucus said

A more accurate quotation would be “every old sick person that votes regularly has the right to have young and healthy people pay for their meds AND their retirement”.

We need to do something about health care costs in this country. They are rising 8% annually per family, which is unsustainable.

Baucus, like any good Democrat, wraps the elements of a good plan with crap.

A good plan would:

  • require all to have a minimum of insurance, but not require a 20 year old to have the same plan as me.
  • have those using more medical care pay more
  • require ongoing payments as they receive that care (ensuring diligence)
  • maintain profit motives for insurers and medical providers

  1. TR Says:

    1. All should pay a fixed ER premium and have a catastrophic plan based on income with the premium deducted from pay or welfare check.
    2. Disease doesn’t discriminate and not all old folks have the money. Means test seems appropriate here within limits.
    3. At least something to block hangnail doctoring.
    4. Good
    5. Disbar ambulance chasers!

#5… good. Legal shenanigans add to cost.

I’d also permit nurses and PAs to do a lot more.

A lot of oxes have to be gored to solve this. I doubt the Democrats have it in them.
