image thumb24 Bad Idea: Coupon for digital TV converter
Yet another bad use for money forcibly taken from Ken. Yippee!

Apparently you can get a coupon worth $40 to defray the cost of purchasing a converter to make your old TV get digital TV.  And surprise surprise.. free money is popular:

This week, federal officials said the program to distribute $40 coupons to consumers to help defray the cost of converter boxes has run out of money, so consumers who need the coupons may not receive them in time for the transition.

And apparently the list for $40 coupons is approaching 5 million. That is $200 million dollars + administrative costs wasted.

How about this….

Get your own damn converter. Why should I pay so you can keep up with your “stories”?

Thanks, I have my coupon. The DTV Insignia NS-DXA1 is now $20 versus $60. Would you like to kick in another $55 for the new TERK TV5 antenna I’ll need to watch Tiger play some day? It’s the greedy software types who stressed the frequency allocations for their stupid games, movies and crummy music.

I’m surprised they aren’t $40 – prices tend to rise to meet government expectations…
