It occurred to me this morning that I cannot think of a single major thing our country is doing right. This isn’t a new thought to me, I felt similarly during the Bush years. But the distance from doing right grows faster these days.
By “right” I don’t mean my policy preferences. I mean “right”.
Is it right to borrow trillions? Is it right to raise spending when we already have too much debt? Is it right to take my money and give it to union members? Is it right to reward reckless borrowing, reckless business practices? Is it right to treat terrorists better than our own soldiers? Is it right for the government to guarantee a private company’s warranties? None of this seems “right”.
Our nation’s government just seems to be run by people that don’t know right from wrong (as a regular person would define it) any longer.
We need to change the type of person that can hold political office. I had written “serve in political office” but who is “serving” who these days?
