Bad Idea: Abstract thinkers + Political Power

Belmont Club covers the documentary “No Place to Hide” where Larry Grathwohl, undercover FBI agent, describes what Bill Ayer’s Weather Underground planned to do after the revolution:

The Weathermen’s plans included putting parts of United States under the administration of Cuba, North Vietnam, China and Russia and re-educating the uncooperative in camps in located in the Southwest. Since there would be holdouts, plans were made for liquidating the estimated 25 million unreconstructable die-hards.

Hey… I think I’m one of those die-hards… so this time it’s PERSONAL!

Pol Pot – Cambodian abstract thinker (and killer of millions)

Richard then goes on to say its easy to imagine a room full of masters degree holders from elite institutions sitting around imagining how to kill millions in re-education camps, but what would really be hard to imagine is a group of plumbers doing the same thing.

Abstract thinkers… handy in the lab VERY DANGEROUS in power.

How this applies to Jefferson, Washington, and Franklin… I don’t know. Perhaps there has to be a technology level before abstraction becomes risky. Trains? Automobiles?

Anyway, the more pertinent questions is how does this apply to Barack Obama, Ayers long-time pal?
